Glass House Collective is at it again. This Saturday, Sept. 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. they will be hosting Glass Street Live 2016. This year, they are collaborating with organizations such as Jazzanooga, Archway on Glass, Grow Hope Urban Farm, Mark Making, and the Chattanooga Police Department to bring you an exciting day of activities. Glass Street Live is just one way that they are working to bring life back into the historic Glass Street neighborhood in East Chattanooga. They have something for everyone this weekend with art, pop-up shops, paint-a-cop-car, food trucks, vendors, and entertainment.
A highlight of this year’s event will be the start of Wayne-O-Rama, a yearlong collaboration celebrating the work of local Emmy Award-winning artist Wayne White. This is what Times Free Press reporter Barry Courter had to say about it:
“It would take me several hours to explain all of this, but here's the short version: White is from Hixson and did set design for "Pee-wee's Playhouse," among many other things. Wayne-O-Rama is a yearlong collaboration centered on him but including all kinds of local arts groups. Glass Street Live will feature music, food, arts and a parade to Sherman's Reservation, which is reopening to the public. And there is so much more.”
White built three puppets to lead the annual parade. The quarter-mile parade will highlight new access points for a trail constructed to connect the Sherman Reservation National Park to Glass Street. The Glass House Collective is advocating increased awareness of and visitation to the park, which is open to visitors but seldom used. As the fourth-largest parcel in the National Park Service's local system, the Sherman Reservation has the potential to serve as a municipal park, a historical tribute, and much needed green space access for the surrounding communities.
To promote this event, Glass House Collective partnered with Q Strategies to conduct a media tour spreading the word about their cause and this event.
